Unity Arts has a long and varied experience working in education, training, social care and youth & community settings, across all ages, with people from many backgrounds. We also consider private commissions/bookings requiring a more tailored approach (parties, celebratory private functions... artswork murals etc.) In education as an example, we have successfully contributed to the arts programme in Manchesters Key Stages 3 and 4 Pupil Referral Units for several years, providing a range of creative workshops. Our work in schools includes workshops led by professional arts/music workers who are also qualified/experienced in working with young people as teachers, mentors, youth workers, advice & guidance... Activities can be one-offs for celebratory fun, or as part of a structured programme that might lead to performance / exhibition & usually accredited in some way. Examples include Music Makers at Chorlton High School, Circus at Barlow RC HS...
Participants also have the opportunity to develop positive self-esteem, build confidence, enhance interpersonal skills, exchange views and opinions & develop strategies to resolve differences... It is an opportunity to further establish and go some way to achieving goals and aspirations.
Please contact us if you have an idea and it isnt listed. Some activities include specific inputs about being safe and legal... Unity staff can take a cross curricular thematic approach and are aware of the demands of the school curriculum.
What people have said about our work... The Manchester Pupil Referral Unit has worked in partnership with Unity for several years. They have provided enriching opportunities for some of the most vulnerable and challenging young people in the city. In addition to enhancing our curriculum offer, they have contributed to the PRUs artsmark gold status for the period 2008-2011... In addition to providing exciting and positive activities, Unity workers are also able to mentor pupils to look forward to the future and raise their awareness of the opportunities the city has to offer them... Jane Parkinson, Deputy Head, Key Stage 3 Pupil Referral Unit.
...The young people thoroughly enjoyed the activities and have appreciated the skills they gained and the new challenges they had. Relatives and friends who attended a concert the young people organised to demonstrate their skills were overwhelmed at how much had been gained in so short a time. From our perspective we would commend Unity Arts as a partnership body for work with young adults and we would testify to the quality of the work they deliver. The outcome is apparent in the new confidence and aspirations in those young adults who participate... Rev. J McKenzie MPhil, MA, Dip.Ed Whalley Range Methodist Church
The young people really enjoyed the process of making the lanterns and were very proud of what they achieved. It was a pleasure to work with Unity at every stage, from the initial meeting through to the completion of the project...Many thanks- Sinéad Kay, Youth Project@Apostles & Cuthberts
